WeBL is a free web-based boxing game using the original EKO engine (the original web-based boxing game).

Players create an unlimited number of boxing characters and have bouts scheduled against other managers on a weekly basis. An off-line simulator is used to determine the results of each fight, in the style of a play-by-mail game.

Fighters vie for a regional title in each of 17 weight divisions. Winners move on to a special "Contenders" region, to fight for a world championship. Fighters can improve their abilities as they improve in the standings, but also lose abilities as they absorb punishment, so no fighter lasts forever.

To prepare for a bout, each manager creates a "fight plan" that tells his boxer how aggressive or defensive to be, what types of punches to throw, what fighting style to use, whether to use body blows or head punches, and even whether to cheat. A fighter can fight differently in different rounds and can react to the bout as it progresses. There are many tradeoffs to take into consideration. You may want to tire your opponent, maximize your chance of a knockout, impress the judges, or jab for a cut. Different tactics are better for different purposes, so fight plans for have to be devised that exploit your own fighters strengths and your opponent's weaknesses. A "slugger" must be handled differently from a "speed merchant".

Every fight ever simulated can be viewed through an on-line database and the best managers use this database to study their opponents before each bout. There are many kinds of reports that show head-to-head records for each manager, career summaries of each boxer, rankings for each region and weight division, etc.

Fighters can also issue press releases and role-playing is encouraged, although strong language is censored.

WeBL is free and fun and it's easy to get started.
