STAR EMPIRES III Welcome to Star Empires III, the third incarnation of one of the most popular space operas of all time. You all thought it was impossible, but the highly rated Star Empires II has been improved. Extensive redesign and reprogramming have given rise to many new and improved features; here's just a taster:
* All new alien races with greater scope for player interaction and their own hidden agendas!
* Expanded research allowing players to specialise and define the type of empire they wish to father.
* Additional planetary units ranging from Drones to Spies and to Cloning Centres.
* A Completely revamped combat mechanism granting greater flexibility in ship design, construction and deployment.
That said, the overriding aim of the game is still the same - have as much fun as possible while keeping your clothes on!
History
The day that the alien fleet arrived at your Homeworld will always be remembered - a low drone of engines, a darkening of the sun as the vast leviathans drifted across the skies. These visitors came peacefully, and were willing to exchange their impressive technologies with your artwork and basic human trinkets; an image of the old people swapping their gold for beads and baubles rose unbidden to your mind as the exchange took place, though this time it seemed to be done on a rather different basis. With this new technology your people were able to construct simple inter-planetary and interstellar craft, allowing them to reach out into the unexplored space that had beckoned to them for so long. As the alien fleet left, their spokesman announced that this arm of the galaxy was heavily populated, and that they had 'sold' the same technology to every planet they had visited. The meaning of this statement was clear; if you wished your people to rise to any kind of dominance and power in this region of the galaxy, you had better get building ships, exploring and colonising before other, less- amiable visitors arrived! With new ships being built by your people, it was time to study the old charts that showed the stars around you; technology on your world had at least gone as far as giving distance and type of the bodies in your immediate area of space. Now was the chance to find out just what these stars offered to you, and what lay beyond that sphere.
