Raceplan is one of the few formula 1 motor racing games on the market however its not just here to make up the numbers its a top class game that is constantly being improved and updated to run with the real life changes in grand prix racing.

Raceplan's season runs on the same number of races as in real life grand prix racing for the current season. Each turn intails practice and qualifying for one circuit and the race for another. This is so that you can get all the data back from your practice sessions and qualifying to make the decisions on your race strategy.

Each team has 2 drivers and at least 3 cars. The most important aspect of raceplan is your car with 19 different areas of specification that can be improved its your job to make the car as good as possible. Each specification can be grouped into the following areas engine, aerodynamics, gear box, suspension, brakes and tyres. These can be improved by your designers and losing points (raceplan currency see later) when you order a variation to your car in a certain specification it depends on the quality of your designers.

Losing points this is the currency used in raceplan to keep things on an even keel. its called losing points for obvious reasons the more you lose the more you get. However this is off set by the team that do well get form gains this at the end of the day works out about right, no one team can become to far ahead of the other teams where as the teams that are at the bottom have more losing points to spend on their cars and therefore should not find it too difficult to catch up.

The Drivers each team has 2 drivers with a main skill of race speed and 5 other minor skills. each driver has a form rating that improves with good finishes and reduces with retirements. Each driver also has potential which can be used to train and improve drivers in certain areas. At the end of each season if a driver has good form then this potential can increase several areas at once.

Development of your car is the key to success. Each car takes the form of a version and variation. for instance version 2.5 means version 2 variation 5. You can make about 13 or 14 different variations to your car before a new version is required. A new version is like designing a new car from scratch with all the improvements that you have all ready made this is expensive but is a very important factor. After every development you must test your car mechanics and test teams are important here as the better they are the quicker they will be able to sort out the bugs.

The race is run over 2 turns with practice and qualifying making up one turn and the race for the next. Each turn you must decide on practice set ups, deciding what wing settings and tyre types to use. when you get the report back its then up to you to work out what set up was quickest and when you will need to make your pit stops and how much fuel to put in. You also have the option of asking your drivers to do certain things at certain corners like brake late or extra acceleration.

The race report comes back as a lap by lap report for the whole race. included are all the major and minor points of the race this normally takes up about 4 sides of A4
